Our School

We are open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Discovery Oaks Academy family-owned and has been part of the Sterling neighborhood since 1970.

Discovery Oaks Academy offers a rewarding learning experience for the whole child, where academic and social needs are met through hands-on learning. We incorporate age-appropriate math, science, and language concepts into our literature-based curriculum creating a world of learning where each child is engaged and challenged from their preschool experience through their elementary years.

Preschool provides a safe, nurturing environment where children enjoy learning as they grow socially, emotionally and physically. We use classic children's stories to excite and transport our young learners into the wonderful world of literature. Each month brings new stories that support all areas of development and foster each child's imagination and creativity.

Pre-Kindergarten provides a fun and friendly school experience that builds upon each child's academic and social skills preparing them for that learning leap into Kindergarten. We use favorite children's stories to create an exciting world where the children learn, grow, and mature through play with peers, structured routines, and exciting hands-on activities.

OpenPreschool

Preschool introduces our young learners to a positive learning experience through our literature-based curriculum. Our preschool teachers use classic children's stories to transport their students into a world of literature where language, math, and science can be explored through play and imagination.

Each lesson helps build the necessary academic and social skills needed for young learners. The children enjoy art projects, games, and music that center on each theme, reinforcing the wonderful world of literature and learning.

OpenPre-Kindergarten

Pre-Kindergarten is a fun, friendly, and academic atmosphere in which your child will grow and learn with age-appropriate activities and peers. All Pre-K classes use a literature-based curriculum called “Book Boxes.” We transform favorite children’s books into wonderful worlds of learning through play and discovery.

All areas of academics are incorporated into each book theme making the learning experience fun and exciting. Your child will grow socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually in an enriching, child-centered environment.

OpenKindergarten

The Kindergarten program provides a full-day experience that focuses on enriched reading and math experiences, and exciting science and social studies activities.

Our SchoolWe use the Rigby Literacy program -the newest research-based literacy program. The program is based on guided reading strategies and the tenets of balanced literacy with phonemic awareness and phonics as critical components.

The program is developed to help students of varying abilities, backgrounds and experiences become successful readers and writers. Our curriculum goes beyond Loudoun County SOL requirements.
