First Grade at Discovery Oaks Academy
The first-grade program reinforces and extends the enriched skills previously learned, and challenges each child with individualized instruction, group learning, and home research and projects. The Virginia Standards of Learning are the basis for the curriculum, with advanced learning experiences in both the core and special subjects.
In addition to the core subjects of reading, math, social studies, and science, there will be instruction in foreign language, computers, music, art, and physical education. Low student to teacher ratios will be maintained in all classes.
Small class sizes, experienced teachers, and one-on-one instruction create an excellent learning environment for first graders.
Hours of Operation
We are open from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Classes run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with before- and after-school care available. A healthy, balanced lunch is available for purchase at $2.50 per day, or students may bring their own bag lunch. Discovery Oaks Academy is a peanut-free school.
