Preschool at Discovery Oaks Academy

For most children, preschool is their first experience in an academic setting. Our program provides a warm and loving environment in which your child can learn and grow.

We introduce our young learners to a positive learning experience through our literature-based curriculum. Our preschool teachers use classic children's stories to transport their students into a world of literature where language, math, and science can be explored through play and imagination.

The children enjoy art projects, games, and music that center on each story reinforcing the wonderful world of literature and learning. Each month brings a new favorite story that helps build the necessary academic and social skills needed for future school success.

To enhance the program and reinforce the curriculum, we have structured time for music and other special events throughout the year. Each season brings an occasion for a classroom celebration, as well as special recognition for birthdays, cultural awareness, and giving to our community and family.

OpenComputer Curriculum Goals

Students will be able to:

  • Click the mouse twice and understand that the hourglass means to wait
  • Explore with the use of the mouse
  • Find the letters in their name on the keyboard
  • Type their name using the keyboard
  • Learn the proper terminology of the six major parts of the computer (monitor, screen, keyboard, mouse, hard drive and printer)
  • Access a learning game using the proper procedures
Open Music Curriculum

Every class participates in a weekly music class with Mr. Skip.  Full of energy, movement, education and fun, this is a chance for students to explore the world through notes and sounds.

The main focus of the music curriculum is to introduce basic music concepts through singing, moving, listening, and playing instruments.   Students will gradually develop their singing voices, a repertoire of songs, and a sense of rhythm beginning with the steady beat and continuing toward complex rhythms.

Through these experiences students will have the opportunity to apply and demonstrate an understanding of music concepts.  These goals are presented in age-appropriate levels.

OpenForeign Language Curriculum

Discovery Oaks Academy’s Foreign Language Curriculum includes an introduction to Spanish, French, German and Italian. All children are taught language development as well as the geographical location of where these languages are spoken.

The program introduces the children to basic language skills, including greetings (such as “hello” and “goodbye”), numbers, colors, family members, school vocabulary and holidays. Vocabulary is reinforced each day through play and learning.

Children will also be introduced to various cultures of the countries where the languages are spoken. This includes holidays, food, dress, traditions, songs and games throughout the year.

OpenPreschool Options

We are open from 7:00 a.m until 6:00 p.m.

Your child may attend the Preschool class from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  We also offer a full-day program that includes preschool plus before- and/or after-school care.

The “Lunch Bunch” option is offered to the 3-day children attending the Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday class.  This option allows students to attend class and then stay for lunch.  Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

OpenA Day in the Life of Preschool

A typical preschool day consists of group circle time, child-centered and teacher directed activities, playground fun, snack and lunch experiences with their peers. Our preschool students are guided through routines, transitions, and new social experiences by our nurturing, dedicated teachers.
